Police - The quantity of patrol cars on the street at any one time has not kept up with the population growth of the city for several years.
The challenges facing police services are unprecedented with an increase in violent crime.  There are savings and efficiencies to be realized, allowing the city to invest in new, innovative technologies for more effective investigations, policing, and alternatives to service delivery . Additional training and support is also required.
Certain areas of policing need to be reviewed and need to evolve and adapt. There isn't an immediate quick fix but medical and social services need to be readily available to support police or to take the lead in response provided it is safe to do so. There may be an opportunity to transfer different responsibilities to police cadets and agencies.
The challenge has never been greater.
All Winnipeggers need to feel safer and be safer.
